Slechts 2 maanden na de vorige bevoorrading vliegt een nieuw Progress-vrachtschip vanmiddag naar het International Space Station. De lancering is hier live mee te kijken.
Het Progress-schip vertrekt om 17:26 Nederlandse tijd vanaf het Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazachstan, en zal 6 uur later bij het ISS aankoppelen – als alles volgens plan gaat tenminste. Twee weken geleden waren 3 astronauten 3 dagen langer onderweg dan gepland, vanwege een defect aan hun Soyuz-capsule.
Bij het lanceren van een Progress-schip is het altijd de bedoeling dat het huidige Progress-schip dat aan het ISS hangt eerst ontkoppelt. Dat gebeurde afgelopen maandag, toen Progress M-17M van het station loskoppelde met afval aan boord. Dat schip zal eerst nog 11 dagen om de aarde cirkelen, om vervolgens op te branden in de dampkring.
